by Vicci McWilliams
-How many children do you have?
2 – Thea age 3 years 9 months, Mollie age 6 months.
-How long have you been carrying for?
I carried Thea till she was 9 months old, and I’ve carried Mollie since 1 day old!
-How old was your child when you started carrying?
1 day old for Mollie, Thea was about 4 weeks old.
-What was your first carrier?
An Amawrap (stretchy) for Thea and a Moby (stretchy) and Connecta for Mollie
-Why did you start carrying?
For Thea it was the unknown. I had zero guidance but wanted to try it, but gave up quickly as didn’t know where to go after a stretchy. But with Mollie it’s been my lifesaver as she’s my second. I’m hands free, can concentrate on Thea and as soon as Mollie is in the sling she’s asleep! She loves it. I rarely use my buggy.
-What did you find were the positives of carrying?
The closeness, sleepy dust and the convenience. Mollie loves nothing more than being in our Connecta. Thea also loves going on my back on occasion!
-Have you found any drawbacks to carrying?
None. I’ve even gone down a zipwire and slide with Mollie. And bowling too (shh!) all safely and slowly of course, and always facing me.
-Which of the following types of carrier have you tried?
Stretchy Wrap, Buckled Carrier, Meh Dai, Ring Sling
-Which is your favourite type of carrier and why?
I love buckle carriers, these are my go to for a quick up, and they fit in my bags easily. I love helping other mamas at drop in with their buckle needs. And the patterns are to die for!
-Which is your least favourite type of carrier and why?
I don’t have a least favourite, but I find wovens fiddly, but I’m a trier, and I will tackle them again very soon!
-Please tell us more about your Carrying Journey
I carried Thea for the first 9 months, but struggled as after she outgrew the amawrap as I didn’t have any guidance on what else was in the world of babywearing! But when Mollie came along, I luckily found Lysanne through a close friend and my addiction began! I carry Mollie most days, walk miles with her, she loves it and always is asleep within minutes! It’s been a saviour on holiday, everyone always comments on my beautiful patterns and how easy it looks!
-How has Worthing Sling Library helped you on your carrying journey?
Lysanne helped with during my pregnancy with a consultation and opened my eyes to what was on the market and my obsession with buckles began! Since, I’ve become a volunteer at the Worthing drop in and love meeting new people to help them, just like Lysanne helped me. I’ve also helped pregnant friends find the right carrier and they haven’t looked back either!
-What would be your advice to anyone wanting to start baby/toddlerwearing?
Contact Lysanne or come along to Thursdays drop in. We are such a friendly bunch and can help find the perfect fit for you ♥
