My Carrying Journey
by Kat Stapley-Smith
-How many children do you have?
1 child, Toby, 14 months
-How long have you been carrying for?
-How old was your child when you started carrying?
A few weeks old
-What was your first carrier?
-Why did you start carrying?
He liked to be held all the time and not be put down and I needed my hands back so I could do a few things round the house!
-What did you find were the positives of carrying?
Hands free, happier baby and mummy, baby is safer, oxytocin!
-Have you found any drawbacks to carrying?
Back carrying with a Connecta is not comfy and as my little boy gets heavier, my back aches a little on longer walks
-Which of the following types of carrier have you tried?
Stretchy Wrap, Buckled Carrier, Woven Wrap, Meh Dai, Ring Sling
-Which is your favourite type of carrier and why?
Buckled as it’s so quick and easy to put on and take off.
-Which is your least favourite type of carrier and why?
I didn’t get on well with the Close Caboo as I couldn’t fit it quick enough before my little boy got upset.
-Please tell us more about your Carrying Journey
Not sure what we would have done without carrying as our little boy likes to be close to us and loves cuddles. I think he feels more secure in the carrier too. He’s never been too keen on the buggy. It’s also been a lifesaver to have your hands free to get things done round the house. I love that my husband can wear him too.
-How has Worthing Sling Library helped you on your carrying journey?
By introducing me to buckled carriers but also making me aware of all the other amazing carriers out there. I can see how buying carriers can be an addiction for some people!
-What would be your advice to anyone wanting to start baby/toddlerwearing?
Try out as many types as possible before you buy! Go to the drop in. Do not buy a baby carrier before your baby is born!
