I used to teach Drama at a secondary school and for seven years it was a job I absolutely loved. However, just before my wedding in Oct 2015 (impeccable timing) I fell pregnant with my first child.
I had no idea about babywearing until Dexter was born in May 2016 and Jess came round to do a consult when he was two weeks old. She had a stretchy brown Snugiwrap which we wore him in until he was about 3 months old, and then I went back to Jess and hired the pink Mischief Managed Connecta. I loved it so much I went and bought the same one in red!
I fell head over heels in love with babywearing and found it so convenient, so easy and best of all it helped with my PND and PNA. Not to mention Dexter loved all the snuggles too – I’m sure he’s spent more time napping in the sling than anywhere else.
It was when Dexter was about 4 months old that I knew I didn’t want to go back to teaching, I didn’t even want to go back part time or to a local school (my previous school was in East Grinstead – long commute!). I wanted to start up a business that worked around my baby but had no idea what I could do. Then Jess announced she was thinking of selling the Sling Library. Instinctively, I knew it was the business for me and since taking ownership I haven’t looked back.
My husband Neil has been incredibly supportive as I’ve taken this on, and I can’t thank him enough for all his help and advice.
I have completed my Slingababy consultancy training in February 2017. I’m relishing running my own business and helping all the lovely parents of Worthing to wear their babies and toddlers.
